Our budgetary demands to City Council for FY2025
It's budget time! Here are the following demands we are making to City Council as they hash out the new City budget:
- Lower the DPL Administrative Fee from $696k to $50k.
- Authorize a repayment from the City of the $407k that is still missing from the c.2021 wire fraud case against the DPL.
- We reiterate our demand that Council declare a state of emergency on housing, and allocate / reallocate resources accordingly. The over-bloated DPD budget would be a good place to look for some extra funding resources.
- Double DDOT! We are joining the call to double DDOT's budget.
- Duggan's budget proposal reduces the Land Bank’s budget from $11M to $6M...we think it should be even less!
- Also, DPSCD is estimating that they could lose $30 to $80 million from Trump's federal cuts, and the new State House Republicans' new budget proposal reduces the school aid budget by 25%. The district lost over $50 million from tax captures and abatements in 2023! The time to end tax captures on our schools is NOW.

Tax Justice Teach-In: Saturday, March 15
We are holding informational teach-ins in every ZIP code in the city. This will be our eighth teach-in, and we are coming to 48221, at The Raw Space, 8420 W. McNichols.
We will be covering the usual ins & outs of corporate welfare and other issues such as the Drainage Fee, and how they affect Detroiters, as well as explaining our efforts to stop these abuses. Bring your questions!
The event is FREE, and will run from 12pm to 2:00pm.
